This should be an easy PNG that is available in most seasons but may be covered by snow in the winter and I am unsure if they plow the parking lot. You will be looking for a well camoflaged container that is approximately the size of the palm of the hand. This can be easily accessed without crossing over the fence or venturing into the refuge. I have not marked it suitable for wheelchair access as the parking are is dirt. I have left a Colorado lapel pin for the FTF. Happy caching!
The Rocky Flats Plant was a U.S. manufacturing complex that produced parts out of plutonium to be used in nuclear weapons. The plant operated from 1952 to 1992, and in 2007 part of the site was transferred to the US Fish and Wildlife Service to establish the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge. This portion of the land has been deemed safe for unrestricted use and does not include the main operable unit site.
The area has several trails to choose from for recreation such as hiking and biking and the site consists of grasslands, shrublands and wetlands. Wildflowers are abundant in the spring and the site includes rare xeric prarie tallgrass, if you're familiar or interested. You may see the elk herd that resides there, mule deer, black bear, mountain lion, coyote, badgers, owl, and many species of birds just to name a few. Be aware of inherent outdoor dangers such as rattlesnakes and ticks.
