Cache missing. Sorry for the inconvenience. Do not search until we check on it.. 5-28-2021. A short hike beside W. Kerr Scott Reservoir
Bring the kids, bikes, boat or simply bring your hiking shoes to this little marvel just outside of Wilkesboro. A short drive down Route 268 off of 421 will get you there. The cache is a short distance off of a well-marked trail (Dark Mountain Trail 7). LITTLE OR NO BUSHWACKING IS REQUIRED. Weather permitting, you might want to be prepared to swim in the lake or grill at the picnic area. There’s also a playground for the kids! A campground is just right up the road. The cache can be reached by taking either of a couple of trails from the parking lot for Dark Mountain Trail, which has coordinates N 36 08.214, W 081 13.678. If you haven’t already passed it coming in, take the opportunity to visit one of the observation decks. The upper deck is close by the cache. Note: The upper deck may not be visible from the field below during the summer due to foilage growth. ***4-24-05*** Cache container was recently replaced because of water damage. It is now a dark green ammo box. The log book was still intact and in good shape. Several new items were added. Including a second log book.
