Il giardino è stato realizzato tra il 1861 e il 1864 dall'architetto Giovan Battista Filippo Basile a piazza Marina a Palermi, nello storico quartiere della Kalsa e fu intitolata all'eroe nazionale Giuseppe Garibaldi proprio per celebrare la nascita della nazione Italiane, da poco avvenuta.

In 1863,  Giovan Battista Filippo Basile designed the Garibaldi Garden, named after national hero Giuseppe Garibaldi, at the centre of Piazza Marina. This garden is famous because the biggest Ficus macrophylla of Europe is situated in it.
