Geocache Description:

This cache is not at the posted coordinates.

This series highlights Canada's stunning parks and sites that protect the environment and showcases the various historic aspects of our country. Parks Canada protects and administers 37 national parks, 10 national park reserves, 171 (out of 1004) national historic sites, 5 national marine conservation areas, and one national urban park (as of 2023).

Along the River Road Heritage Parkway, St. Andrew's Rectory NHS (Manitoba) demonstrates the influence the Church of England missionaries had upon the lives of the Red River settlers. This large two-storey limestone dwelling was first built as a residence for the Reverend William Cockran, priest of the parish and rector of the nearby St. Andrew's Anglican Church. Originally constructed in 1851-54, it was rebuilt by Parks Canada in the 1980s. The Rectory reflects the Hudson’s Bay style of architecture, which adapted Scottish building techniques to the Canadian frontier. It is a good example of a type of mid 19th-century Red River architecture.

The St. Andrews Heritage Centre is located in the rectory itself, and is committed to showcasing the history of the area. It includes the Red River Ancestry Genealogy Centre, a resource for the collection and preservation of genealogical history, records and materials focusing on the settlement of the Red River area and the province.

Enjoy the puzzle of the rectory along River Road that will reveal the coordinates.
