Attributes are one of the most useful tools in a geocahing page, they give you plenty of useful information about the geocache without spoiling the fun, they often help you prepare with the right gear for your adventures as well choosing the right geocache for you!
You may sign the log at any time, but make sure to meet the requirements before you log your find on the page. Please replaced as found and obey all WV water safety regulations.
The Challenge: To qualify for this challenge you will need to have found 50 caches with the Boat Required Attrribute.
Water Trail Information:
The caches I’ve placed along the Monongahela River are designed to give you something to do while you head to the start of the Marion County F.L.O.A.T water version. There is nothing too out of the ordinary about these caches, however they should give you a good idea of what you are looking for concern cache containers.
NOTE: These caches are not a part of the F.L.O.A.T. series and you will not find the information you need for the series in them.
I have listed the parking areas, launch and takeout locations for the water trail in each cache description to prevent clogging up the map with repeat waypoints.
Parking and Launch: N 39° 28.883 W 80° 08.438
Mid-series Kayak Takeout: N 39° 31.778 W 80° 07.280
Prickett’s Fort Boat Ramp: N 39° 31.095 W 80° 05.500
Final take-out Parking: N 39° 31.070 W 80° 05.540
The Monongahela River is a beautiful, slow-moving, deep river. You should expect some boat traffic, especially on weekends. Please wear a lifejacket and follow all boating rules and regulations regarding the vessel you are using for this water trail. Non-motorized vessels, such as kayaks and canoes, do not require any special registrations in WV.
To complete the trail in a day, you will need to start at the public launch in Fairmont and conclude at Prickett’s Fort State Park. I have also added a mid-series takeout should the trek take longer or prove to be more than you are up to. The complete water trail is approximately 7 miles long. Give yourself about 7.5 hours by kayak. Should you choose to use the mid-series location as a take-out point please be courteous in your parking location selection while you are on the river by using an out of the way location.
One final thing
Respect the private property along the river bank. This is a river series and intended to be accessed on the water. Please don't upset property owners by trying to cut across their land to get to the cache.
Be safe, have fun.
