This series highlights Canada's stunning parks and sites that protect the environment and showcases the various historic aspects of our country. Parks Canada protects and administers 37 national parks, 10 national park reserves, 171 (out of 1004) national historic sites, 5 national marine conservation areas, and one national urban park (as of 2023).
Twice a day, up to 12 metres of water or more rush in and out, roughly equivalent to the height of a four-floor building. This New Brunswick park has two major environmental systems: the marine coastal environment of the Bay of Fundy and the Caledonia Highlands plateau (part of the Appalachian Mountain range) with its deeply cut river valleys. While you can walk the otherworldly ocean floor at low tide, you can also venture inland where trails lead to waterfalls deep in the Acadian forests. Fundy NP serves as the core area for the Fundy Biosphere Reserve and is also designated a Dark Sky Preserve by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.
