Note: Signs say the park is closed, but as of 10-20-01 there was still vehicle access to the park. Camping and picnicing is closed only. Also you can park at the bottom of the road and walk up the hill to the cache.
The park is located at the highest point in Ontario County in the Bristol Hills (410 acres). At an elevation of 2256 feet above sea level you'll have expansive views to the East viewing portions of Ontario County and the hills behind Seneca and Cayuga Lakes. From the "Lookout" (Jumpoff) you will be able to view the Bristol Hills.
Although the cache can be found closer to the road, parking at the Lookout-Jumpoff area will provide for the wonderful views with only minimal additional mileage on your feet. Parking lot is at N42 42.549, W77 24.922. Walk towards the jumpoff even though your GPS unit shows differently. At the jumpoff take the trail to the left heading South. This is the start of the Bristol Branch of the Finger Lakes Trail System. See www.fingerlakes.net for more information on the FLT.
This cache is fairly easy and suitable for families and a picnic in the park. It is located near an area where tree leaf cover will not interfer with satellite reception. The cache itself is under a tree close to one of the many paths in the area.
Have fun, good picnicing and enjoy the views.
