Cette cache a été posée à l'occasion du Mega évent "Au Front" à Givenchy-en-Gohelle GCA9YTX. Ce rassemblement a été voulu par les organisateurs comme un moment de convivalité entre passionés de Geocaching, de nature, de patrimoine et d'histoire. Notre volonté est de permettre à chaque profil de joueur de pouvoir pratiquer ce loisir comme il le souhaite et de partager avec d'autres des moments de rassemblement et de partage autour de sites historiques du Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Géologie locale
Le Parc Commémoratif Canadien de la Bataille de Vimy est construit sur des limons pléistocènes (entre environ 2 millions d'années et 11800 ans). Les limons sont des roches sédimentaires meubles, formés de particules sédimentaires composées généralement de quartz, parfois du feldspath et d'argiles. Ici, ils sont composés de quartz et d'argiles, et leur épaisseur atteind plusieurs mètres.
Ces limons reposent au Sud-Ouest sur de la craie blanche du Coniacien et Santonien (environ -89 à -83 millions d'années), et au Nord-Est sur la base de cette même craie blanche ainsi que la craie grise turonienne (environ -95 à -89 millions d'années). Les deux formations crayeuses n'ont reçu aucune altération significative.

Les dolines
La karstification est le processus de création et de structuration de vides dans les roches sédimentaires, le plus souvent carbonatées. Elle résulte d’un lent travail dont l’origine est l'altération des calcaires due à l’eau et au CO2.
Parmi les figures karstisques, les dolines sont un des traits les plus caractéristiques. Ce sont des dépressions fermées des milieux karstiques dans lesquelles le calcaire a été dissous par l'eau de pluie, provoquant l'affaissement du sous-sol sur des dimensions de quelques mètres à plusieurs centaines de mètres en extension et plusieurs mètres en profondeur.

Local geology
The Canadian Battle of Vimy Memorial Park is built on Pleistocene silts (between approximately 2 million years old and 11,800 years old). Silts are loose sedimentary rocks, made up of sedimentary particles generally composed of quartz, sometimes feldspar and clays. Here, they are composed of quartz and clay, and are several metres thick.
In the south-west, these silts rest on white chalk from the Coniacian and Santonian periods (around 89 to 83 million years ago), and in the north-east on the base of this same white chalk and Turonian grey chalk (around 95 to 89 million years ago). Both chalk formations have not been significantly altered.

Sinkholes
Karstification is the process of creating and structuring voids in sedimentary rock, usually carbonate. It is the result of a slow process originating in the alteration of limestone by water and CO2.
Among karstic features, sinkholes are one of the most characteristic. These are closed depressions in karstic environments in which the limestone has been dissolved by rainwater, causing the subsoil to subside over dimensions ranging from a few metres to several hundred metres in extent and several metres in depth.
