The Lady Slipper. ok, but which one?
In 1893 the Minnesota Legislature named the wild lady slipper as the state flower, which turned out to be a mistake. The lady slipper (Cypripedium calceolus) does not grow in Minnesota.
In 1902 a resolution was passed naming the pink and white lady slipper Minnesota’s state flower. Also called the showy lady slipper, Cypripedium reginae, became the state flower, by law, with Minnesota Statue 1.142 in 1967.
