Geocache Description:

We have spent a bit of time in this zone in recent months having a few friends in the local scout group, there are a good number of caches in the area and some very nice scenery so well worth a visit. The cache is named for an environmental project undertaken by the group and local council in 2021, details below.
You do not need to enter the Scout Hall grounds to access this cache.

The Forty Spotted Pardalote is a very sweet little bird which is only found in a few locations around eastern Tasmania. They were seriously threatened by a parasitic fly laying eggs in their nests. Blackmans Bay Scouts worked together with the council and Australian National University Fellow, Fernanda Alves to built cages full of steralised chicken feathers treated with an insecticide for the birds to use as nest fodder to keep the flies away and give the chicks a chance at survival.
The scouts spent an entire day building the cages needed for the project and they were dispersed across north Bruny. The Scout Group have also put small nesting boxes in the white gums surrounding their hall so the little birds have save places to nest.
