Geocache Description:

Memorial Park is on Napier Road, the main eastern access to Palmerston North. The Park is well established with trees and is a nice area for families and picnicing.

This cache is a remake of the original "Lest We Forget (GC13F4J)" by Done and Dusted, the subsequent "Lest We Forget 2 (GC37BJ8)" and "Lest We Forget 3 (GC3BE64)" by the Seagnoid, "Lest We Forget 4 (GC67654)" and and more recently "Lest We Forget 5 (GC8FNPD)" by Etherlord Clan.
Unfortunately, the hosts of the first three versions experienced the same gravitationally-enhanced fate, version 4 was 'gardened', and version 5 was arsoned.

This park was originally a quarry for the local railway (see Manawatu rail: Terrace End). In 1937 it was sold to the City Council who developed it into a community park and named it Fitzroy Park. It was then renamed Memorial Park in 1950 to remember those who perished in WWII.

Drive on in for parking and facilities, including a children's swimming pool, playground area, roller-skating rink, and pond with ducks to feed. Numerous outdoor tables and seating as well as a fixed BBQ are provided for family picnicking. It can be quite busy on a nice summer's day.
The main gate is open from 8.00am to 6.00pm during winter and 8.00am to 9.00pm at other times. It is possible however to access the area by foot at any time of the day.
The coordinates provided above are for the drive-in entrance to the park.

A stroll in the park (~10 minutes) will enable you to answer the questions to complete the above coordinates.
The cache is hidden within the park area and is a small container, just big enough for a logbook and pen and not much else.

The cache itself is at S40º20.ABC E175º37.XYZ

A: In the kids' playground, there is a low green wall with coloured poles poking up.
How many orange and purple poles are there?
B: How many entry gates are there into the skating rink? (count carefully!)
C: In the water splash area, how many green and red "cups" are there that spill water when they get full? (look up!)

Z: Find the large 'spiders web' rope climbing frame.
How many black corner balls are there? Add the digits together.
Y: How many pairs of BBQs are there to cook on?
X: From the climbing frame and BBQ area, take the path leading alongside the pond.
How many yellow and green items do you see along the sides of the path?

The checksum for your answers is 36
