At The Crossroads
Sumas is a super cool place. My family was here
for many years (my great grandpa helped to create the town, my grandpa was a
pillar of the community for 100 years- (just a little bit proud) and my dad and
siblings were raised here, and I spent much time up here enjoying country
living. Sumas is at a crossroads. Things have changed so much since I was a girl
coming to visit family up here. Shops, homes, floods, and the landscape have all
changed. My family has all moved or passed away. I still love coming back, but
it is bittersweet, and things are so different, and few remember the past that I
do.
This cache is at the crossroads. (It is the
coolest place. I wish there was a bench so I could sit awhile). One way heads
into town, the new, commuter town where people have torn down old houses and
only sleep there and commute into Bellingham. Another way heads toward the
cemetery where the pillars of Old Sumas quietly rest, and family comes to pay
respects- such a peaceful place. Still, another way leads out of town the scenic
way, and the last way leads up into the hills full of promise of country living
and peace.
This is my fourth cache in Sumas so you have
plenty to do while up here. I hope to do more and to give others a taste of
country living and a glimpse into the past. Enjoy!
