Geocache Description:

The Ian Fleming's James Bond series of geocaches is to honor the amazing original books (not the movies).  It is placed along a section of General Crook trail originating from the Rim Trailhead.  Designed for biking, this powertrail is spaced .25-.5 miles between geocaches (because 0.1 mile spacing on a bike is very tedious).

The seventh book in the series, Goldfinger refers to a villian, Auric Goldfinger, who in addition to having a plot to support SMERSH through amassed Gold, has a terrible flaw: he cheats.   Bond reveals him cheating at cards, then later beats him in an amazing round of golf, which is particularly interesting to those who play the game.  It also reveals a key characteristic of Bond, he doesn't enjoy killing people, even when fighting in self defense.

It was part of his profession to kill people. He had never liked doing it and when he had to kill he did it as well as he knew how and forgot about it. As a secret agent who held the rare double-O prefix—the licence to kill in the Secret Service—it was his duty to be as cool about death as a surgeon. If it happened, it happened. Regret was unprofessional—worse, it was a death-watch beetle in the soul.

Goldfinger, Chapter 1: Reflections in a Double Bourbon

In many ways it is the pinnacle of the James Bond novels in maturity and development. While the later books are also very well done, Goldfinger has elements making it one of if not the best of all the Bond novels: a supervillian, a nearly unbeatable henchman, amazing deductive and intuitive moves by Bond, and of course a game of Golf which for afficianados of that game cannot be outdone in excitement. It is only outdone in that other novels have more interesting and three dimensional female characters.

Goldfinger is hidden about 1 mile from the trailhead.
