Geocache Description:

The Ian Fleming's James Bond series of geocaches is to honor the amazing original books (not the movies).  It is placed along a section of General Crook trail originating from the Rim Trailhead.  Designed for biking, this powertrail is spaced .25-.5 miles between geocaches (because 0.1 mile spacing on a bike is very tedious).

“You only live twice: once when you are born, and once when you look death in the face.”

This quote is from Fleming's eleventh James Bond Novel.  It shows a Bond, struggling with the death of his newlywed wife, drinking, smoking and generally floundering.  He then discovers his nemeis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld has hidden in Japan, and how revenge replaces depression.  It is a much more human James Bond than the invincible agent in the movies.  Ironically, this was first Bond movie I ever saw and it captivated me with James Bond, secret agents, the nation of Japan (where I would eventually live for two years), and of course those devastating pirahna.  Ironically, most of those elements aren't actually in the novel, which more closely mirrored by the end of "No Time to Die," the last of the David Craig movies.

The book illustrates one of Bond's greatest talents, his ability to completely evaluate a situation and somehow find an escape.  No exploding pens or special watches, there is just his own ability.  I also enjoy the references to Japan which like any cultural description, are accurate only within a given sphere.

The geocache is hidden about 1 1/2 mile from the traihead.
