It is designed to be a relatively quick cache find around train stations for travellers but, of course, anyone else can find it too! More Information about the series can be found at the SideTracked Series
Please bring your own writing stick to sign the log and remember if you have not signed the log you have not officially found the cache. Sadly no photo logs will be accepted.
Waverton
Indigenous Australians occupied this area as recently as 1916 and many nearby locations show evidence of this.
Waverton was not named until 1929. It was given the name in honour of the original owner of the land, William Carr who called his estate Waverton after an English village.
Today it is a small commercial village which can be accessed by both train and the 265 bus which runs between North Sydney and Lane Cove. There are many walking tracks to Balls Head Reserve and the harbour foreshore.
About Waverton Station
The North Shore Line between Hornsby and St Leonards was opened in 1890. A single track branch line was then constructed from St Leonards to the terminus on the harbour's edge at Milsons Point with the station itself being construted as a duplicate track with two side platforms, one up, one down, each with timber station buildings and an overhead booking office.

The station is Heritage listed and the buildings were all replaced in 1993 with exact historic replicas. Waverton Station was opened on the 1st May, 1895, and called Bay Road. The name was changed to Waverton in 1929 with the official naming of the suburb as Waverton.

The Bay Road tunnel opposite the station was built during construction of the 'branch line' as a duel track tunnel and opened in 1893. At the time it was considered a major construction masterpiece.

The garden area where you will find the cache was Runner Up in the 2017 North Sydney Garden Competition for the most beautiful public area maintained by residents.
