Heading north to leave the Ridgewood Duck Pond, you take the easternmost path that sticks closest to the Saddle River. Keep heading north past the twists and turns with the river always at your right. Onward in the direction toward Linwood Avenue, you'll be nearing the exit of the park, having passed a few houses on your left by this point. Blink and you'll miss this very narrow path through the tall queen Anne's lace plants, home in this early summer of 2023 to many happy ladybugs. You'll know you took the right path if it then veers off to the left with a rough rocky path with a view down to the river on the right. I'm hiding behind the bright green basal shoot sprouting off the trunk of an ash leaf maple. The shoot looks like young bamboo.
