This cache - San Francisco Giants
The Giants compete as a member of the National League (NL) West division. Founded as the New York Gothams, the team was renamed the New York Giants three years later, eventually relocating from New York City to San Francisco in 1958.
The franchise is one of the oldest and most successful in professional baseball, with more wins than any team in the history of major American sports. The team was the first major-league organization based in New York City, most memorably playing home games at several iterations of the Polo Grounds.
Willie Mays is regarded as one of the greatest players ever. Mays ranks second behind only Babe Ruth on most all-time lists, including those of The Sporting News and ESPN. (Though don't forget about Ted Williams!). Mays played in the National League (NL) between 1951 and 1973 for the New York / San Francisco Giants and New York Mets. Mays is currently (June 2023) the oldest living member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. (Sadly Mays died on 18 June 2024).
