Baraga County is a county in the Upper Peninsula. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 8,158, making it Michigan's fifth-least populous county. The county seat is L'Anse. The county is named after Bishop Frederic Baraga, a Catholic missionary who ministered to the Ojibwa Indians in the Michigan Territory.
The L'Anse Indian Reservation of the Ojibwa is within Baraga County.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,069 square miles, of which 898 square miles is land and 171 square miles is water.

Keep in mind during hunting season to be aware of hunters in the area. Hunting is allowed most non-summer months, generally from September 15 until April 1st each year, so please be careful and dress appropriately, including Hunter Safety Orange, when hunting is allowed.
A Recreation Passport is required for all vehicles entering Sleepy Hollow State Park. They are best purchased with your Michigan license plate, but are also available at the park.
