ATTENZIONE: la cache è in un LUOGO PRIVATO. Per accedervi è necessario suonare il campanello del proprietario (vedi waypoint) e chiedere di poter visitare la chiesa. È anziano e sa poco l’italiano ma è molto cordiale, vi farà passare sicuramente, vi spiegherà come entrare nella chiesa e vi racconterà qualche aneddoto a riguardo. Non sa dell’esistenza della cache perché banalmente sarebbe stato estremamente difficile spiegargli di cosa si tratta quindi non fatevi vedere mentre la maneggiate! Mi raccomando portate rispetto per il luogo e buona caccia!
Descrizione dell’edficio:
La chiesetta dei Santi Gervasio e Protasio è un piccolo luogo di culto in località Roncole, a San Pelaio, dall’origine molto antica: somiglia ad altre chiese campestri di origine longobarda e potrebbe quindi risalire a prima del Mille. La facciata rivolta ad ovest è un tratto caratteristico delle chiese più antiche; essa viene citata per la prima volta in un lascito testamentario del 1389.
Dall’aspetto romanico e costruita in sassi di fiume e mattoni, negli interni sussiste un'importante serie di affreschi antichi. Nell’abside si trova una Madonna con il Bambino e la Maddalena (XI-XIII secolo) che si richiama alla pittura bizantina. A fianco della porta laterale si colloca una sacra conversazione con la Vergine che allatta il Bambino e i santi Maria Maddalena, Gervasio e Protasio (fine XIII secolo). Più recente (XVII secolo) una Sant'Anna presso l'arco che sovrasta l'altare, a destra.
Localizzata in un'area agricola molto povera, la chiesa versò a lungo in condizioni di semi-abbandono. Solo nel 1985 ha subito un importante restauro, acquisendo l’aspetto attuale.

He is elderly and knows little Italian (and surely not a word in English) but is very friendly, he will certainly let you pass, will explain how to enter the church and will tell you some anecdotes about it. He doesn't know about the existence of the cache because it would simply have been extremely difficult to explain to him what it is so don't let him see you handling it! Building description:
The church of Saints Gervasio and Protasio is a small place of worship in Roncole, in San Pelaio, with very ancient origins: it resembles other rural churches of Lombard origin and could therefore date back to before the year one thousand. The facade facing west is a characteristic feature of the older churches; it is mentioned for the first time in a testamentary bequest of 1389.
With a Romanesque appearance and built in river stones and bricks, there is an important series of ancient frescoes in the interior. In the apse there is a Madonna with Child and Magdalene (11th-13th century) which refers to Byzantine painting. Next to the side door there is a sacred conversation with the Virgin breastfeeding the Child and the saints Mary Magdalene, Gervasio and Protasio (late 13th century). More recent (17th century) a saint Anna near the arch above the altar, on the right.
Located in a very poor agricultural area, the church was in conditions of semi-abandonment for a long time. Only in 1985 it underwent a major restoration, acquiring its current appearance.
