This is another in the disappearing Airline Blues

US Airways was absorbed by American Airlines in 2015, but it could trace its lineage to 1939 as All American Aviation based in Pittsburgh. In 1949 it changed its name to All American Airways. In 1953 it was renamed Allegheny Airlines. Allegheny absorbed several other airlines as a major player in the Northeastern US. In 1979 the airline renamed itself USAir to allow expansion across the US after deregulation.
It continued to grow by acquiring more airlines across the US. In 1997 it renamed itself again to US Airways. The airline struggled, filing for bankruptcy in 2002 and 2004. In 2005 it merged with America West Airlines. Although US Airways' name was retained, the former America West Management team ran it, and its Callsign for air traffic control retained the America West callsign of "cactus." In 2012 US Airways approached Bankrupt American Airlines to merge. The merger was approved, and American Airlines' name was retained, even though US Airways was acquiring AA. 2015 US Airways and the callsign of "cactus" was no more.
I flew on US Airways a lot after the merger with America West. I was never a fan, but they were my company's preferred airline to Phoenix.
Note, across the street, you may see a LOT of cats. I placed this cache in the early evening and turning down this street, I saw many little eyes watching me. Hence not dog recommended...
