A while back (Nov 2021) I placed a cache (GC9JTYJ - Take a Break from I-10 (Westbound)) in the westbound rest area on the other side of the interstate. I figured someone would put one on the eastbound side. I was going through my caches and had decided to make a trip out to this part of the state as I have two traditional caches (GC3PNM2 - Sky Viewers and GC2PNQP - Abject Failure) in the Davis Mountains and I wanted to check on the status of the westbound cache mentioned above.
I was astonished to see that no one had ever put a cache on the eastbound side. So, as of now, I am rectifying that issue. I had spoken with the gentleman that is responsible for both areas the last time I made a visit out here and he confirmed that he had no concerns but cautioned me about putting one in the rocks as snakes favor those areas.
If I understand correctly, this rest area has been open since 2014. It is a pleasant and welcome oasis on this eastern stretch of I-10.
There is nothing fancy about the cache. It is a magnetic cammoed preform with a logbook. No room for trackables. BYOP
