Ponta do Ouro in Southern Mozambique.
Imagine an oasis with turquiose sea and golden sandy beaches on the one side, and dense tropical dune forests on the other side. Nestled inbetween is a village where the roads are paved with sand and the locals welcome you with a good dose of laid back charm.
Whether you enjoy the open air market, or loiter in the cantinas (little shops) or spend a few meticals with the curio vendors, or quench your thirst at a beach bar, or lunch at any of the rustic restaurants, there are many a thing to keep a smile brimming under your straw sun hat.
You can take long walks on endless sandy beaches with bare feet, or hike one of the many trails if you so wish. Or go for a swim in the warm water of the Indian Ocean. Then again, if surfing or kitesurfing tickles your fancy, by all means, go for it. Rent a kayak and brave the waves, why not?
You want to snorkel or scuba? There is no better place to do so than right here at Ponta. Want to swim with the dolphins? You are at the right place, yes you are. Deep Sea fishing your thing? The big fish with your name on is swimming out there waiting for your hook right now.
The cache is right on the Mozambique / South Africa border. Stroll past the cache and you might just need to have your passport with you, but then again no Customs Officer has been seen suntanning around these parts in recent years.
Park your wheels at the "P" coordinates and head for the point. Time your beach walk with the low tide so your walk will be more of a stroll around the rocks, rather than a clamber and a scamper over them. And more than anything else. Enjoy your walk along this pristine coastline.
