The cache is NOT hidden at posted coordinates. But there is a place with a beautiful view of Balos Lagoon, Beach, Cape Tigani and even the Imeri Gramvousa Islet with the old Venetian fortress. The Gramvousa peninsula is definitely worth a visit.
The initial point can be achieved in several ways. The first is a boat voyage from the port of Kavonisi through the island of Imeri Gramvousa to Lagoon Balos and then a short climb to the hill. The second option is to go from Falasarna via Blue Trail (almost 11 km), it is a challenging but beautiful hike. The third option is the road from Kaliviani to the parking lot (about 10 km, the larger part leads on the dirt road), which is the most effective way, especially when you go by car. From the parking lot to the starting point it is just a short walk. This third option is our favorite ;)
In 2023, a toll fee for the purpose of guarding, maintenance and garbage disposal from the NATURA protected area was 1€ per person and the parking fee at the northern end of the dirt road was 3€ per car.
Several stages await you on the way from the starting point towards Kaliviani.
Comment: all variables calculated at stages use a "digital root", i.e. the reduction of a string of digits to a single digit by repeatedly summing the individual digits. For example, for 187, the digital root is equal to 7 because 1+8+7=16 and of that 1+6=7.
Stage 1 Two signposts N35° 35.199 E 23° 35.899
Look at the column with two signposts, calculate the digital root of all nine digits, the result is A.
Stage 2 Ag. Eirini chapel N35° 33.816 E23° 36.228
Above the Ag, Eirini chapel doors are two marble slabs. On the first line of the lower plate is B words.
Stage 3 Monument to C.G. members N35° 32.189 E23° 36.748
The memorial is dedicated to Dimitrios Tapsas and Pantelis Marsellos, members of the Coast Guard. Calculate the digital root of the date of the tragic event, the result is C.
Stage 4 Monument to P.Ch. N35° 31.753 E23° 36.656
Monument is dedicated to Paterakis Charalampos. Add the two digits of his age at the time of death, the result is D.
Stage 5 Signposts Parking N35° 31.518 E23° 36.624
The sign to the car park indicates a distance of F km.
The final coordinates:
N35° 31.(ABC - 492) E23° 36.(CDF + 91)
The sum of all digits of the final coordinates is 59.
