Overseal - St Matthew
This church is part of a combined benefice covering 8 churches in the area. I'd like to thank the Team Rector and the Team Vicar for their encouragement and support to place church micros at these 8 churches in the combined benefice. I've placed caches at Coton in the Elms, Croxall, Linton, Netherseal, Overseal, Rosliston and Walton upon Trent. There is an existing cache at Lullington where the church is also part of this benefice.
This Grade II listed church is situated in a prominent spot overlooking the road junction at the centre of the vilage of Overseal in South Derbyshire. It was built in 1841 by Thomas Johnson of Lichifled in the Early English style. The chancel was added in 1908. As well as being part of the Anglican benefice, it is also used by the local Methodist congregation. The former Methodist church was on Woodville Road and its location can be spotted by the three modern terraced properties amongst the older buildings.
