Flower Power Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Maus1: Going past today and sadly someone has removed it. Too much work to replace, and whatever busybody decided the world doesn't need nice things would probably take it away anyway. Hope people enjoyed finding it while it was out there. Picture for posterity.

Geocache Description:

This is my local community garden - it's been slowly growing over the years, from a couple of garden beds built for the kindergarten, to a full community garden with orchard.

The area here was the Emmett farm from the 1870s to the 1940s, and supplied the areas of Shirley, Richmond, St Albans and Fendalton with milk, which was delivered in the early morning after the 4am milking. Customers would leave billies on their porches and the person delivering the milk would fill them using a ladle.

When Arthur retired in the late 1940s the land on the east side of Quinns Road was sold to local builder Geoff Walker, and the land on the west side (here) was sold to the government for state housing. The lower lying land less suitable for housing was turned into this park, which was then named after the current long serving Labour MP for Christchurch of the time.

The cache isn't in or on any of the garden beds. This is one of the main school walking routes so is quite busy with muggles after school, otherwise it's usually quite quiet.
