Geocache Description:

Do not attempt to park and access from M2 - It is against the law.  Not suitable for unsupervised children.

Folklore has it that in the early 19th. century (also called the eighteen hundreds) the Witches of Marsfield gathered at this very location every full moon.  These witches were mostly convicts of Irish and Scottish decent, whose only crime was to nap a loaf of bread without paying the tuppence asking price.

It is said that they worshipped black cats and sacrificed (their own) unwanted small children into the nearby 66 metre deep well (the well is now safely covered by solid steel sheets).

Also nearby, you will notice a tunnel that actually started life as a forensic dig in the search for more body parts after human remains were found while excavating for the new M2 roadwork.

If you are here at night, around full moon, you are Highly Likely to encounter some ghosts of the witches or their victims!     You will note the circle is monitored by surveillance cameras in a continued attempt to get these apparitions on record; this has so far proven unsuccessful.

And, finally, the prohibition against Horse Drawn Vehicles is a remnant of the days when the poor witches were carted to the gallows on such carriages.

   ( -   not really..)

Please add your own research about this fascinating location when you log your find.
