Ziekenhuis Gasthuisplaats
Van 1252 tot 1968, dus ruim 700 jaar, heeft hier een ziekenhuis gestaan. Het ziekenhuis bestaat nu nog steeds, maar staat op een andere plaats in de stad. Het heet nu Reinier de Graaf Gasthuis. Het is het oudste ziekenhuis in Nederland dat nog bestaat. Slechts één gebouw van het Gasthuiscomplex (ook wel het Heilige Geest Gasthuis genoemd) overleefde de slopershamer. Gebouw De Zuster is de laatste herinnering aan het Delftse ziekenhuis op deze plaats.
Nieuw park op Gasthuisplaats
De toekomst van de Gasthuisplaats is al meer dan 40 jaar een onderwerp van gesprek. Door de sloop van gebouwen is er ruimte vrijgekomen. Deze ruimte was tot begin 2023 geheel in gebruik als parkeerplaats. Met het verdwijnen van het parkeren voor bezoekers eind 2022 kwam ruimte vrij op de Gasthuisplaats. Dit is nu ingericht als tijdelijk park. In 2025 is ook het parkeren voor bewoners vrijwel geheel verdwenen. Dat gaf ruimte voor archeologisch onderzoek.
De gemeente wil van de Gasthuisplaats een groene plek maken. Inmiddels is er een visie gekozen. De visie wordt eind 2025 / begin 2026 verder uitgewerkt tot een ontwerp. De definitieve inrichting wordt in 2026/2027 uitgevoerd.

Hospital Gasthuisplaats
There was a hospital here from 1252 to 1968, so more than 700 years. The hospital still exists, but is located in a different location in the city. It is now called Reinier de Graaf Gasthuis. It is the oldest hospital in the Netherlands that still exists. Only one building of the Gasthuis complex (also called the Heilige Geest Gasthuis) survived the demolition hammer. The 'De Zuster' building is the last memory of the Delft hospital on this site.
New park at Gasthuisplaats
The future of the Gasthuisplaats has been a topic of discussion for more than 40 years. Space has become available through the demolition of buildings. This space was used entirely as a parking lot until early 2023. With the disappearance of parking for visitors at the end of 2022, space became available at the Gasthuisplaats. This is now designed as a temporary park. In 2025 parking for residents has also almost completely ended. This created space for archaeological research (in Dutch).
The municipality wants to transform the Gasthuisplaats into a green space. A vision (in Dutch) has now been developed. The vision will be further developed into a design late 2025 / early 2026. The final design will be implemented in 2026/2027.
