Geocache Description:

"By the shores of Gitchee Gumee
By the shining Big-Sea-Water
Stood the wigwam of Nokomis"

These opening lines to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's (1807-1882) famous poem "Hiawatha" inspired some Redmond women of the early twentieth century to name their newly-formed social club "Nokomis," after the wise grandmother of Hiawatha.  Over the years, the Redmond Library has grown and evolved to meet the changing needs and interests of Redmond's residents. From its humble beginnings as a modest collection of books, the Redmond Library has expanded its offerings to include a diverse range of materials and resources and offers programing for children, teens, and adults.

The Redmond Library houses several artworks and sculptures throughout and around the building. For instance, the impressive sculpture of crows outside the entrance to the library is a sculpture by Tony Angell entitled, Wisdom Seekers. As you make your way around the building to the north side you will discover sculpture by Redmond’s most famous artist Dudley Carter and more in the Edgar. J. Doolittle Art Garden located on building’s northern side

The geocache is placed with express permission of Library managment, and is supported by the Friends of the Redmond Library, a group of volunteers who support the mission of the King County Library by raising funds through used book sales to support programs, classes, events and more at the Redmond Library.

To find this cache use your GPSr to locate the first clue of this puzzle cache. As you circumnavigate the library appreciating the art, the remaining clues of the puzzle will be revealed.

Solving this puzzle requires a little knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System. The Dewey Decimal System is a widely used library classification system that organizes books and other materials based on subject matter. Developed by Melvil Dewey in the late 19th century, it assigns unique numerical codes to different knowledge domains. The numbers represent various subjects, allowing libraries to categorize and arrange their collections systematically. For example, literature is assigned the number 800, while history is classified under 900. This system simplifies the process of locating materials, as users can navigate through the library's shelves and catalog with the help of these numeric codes.

To find this cache, calculate
