Geocache Description:

NO PARKING!

Have you seen these signs? I bet you have and you likely haven't really paid attention to them. They are everywhere in Edmonton; but typically found at the entrance to the parking area of anything (a business, a mall, an apartment complex, clinics and even in the MIDDLE of parking lots) in one format or another! How can you park and do your stuff when you are not allowed to park and do your stuff because it says No Parking? Does that make any sense? Ya, don't answer that.

So we have this Bylaw in Edmonton, number 5590 to be exact, and it is considered a Traffic Bylaw (where lots of stuff gets lumped together under it). Basically, in a nutshell, you will likely find this sign at every place you go, somewhere on the property and it boils down to the owner of said property has the right to tow you away if they figure you are in violation of being there, and / or staying too long. To me, I see it as a 'catch all' but hey, to each their own.

Personally, I became aware of these types of signs up close and personal when I parked at a mall by the old municipal airport one time while I was at the nearby hospital for a few hours. I figured a mall was considered public property, the lot was primarily empty, I was not interferring with anyone elses ability to park and go shopping, and when I was done at the hospital, I would go in the Mall and wander around, maybe even buy something. Ya well, that 'thought' resulted in me getting a ticket with a fine on my windshield with the notice that if I was observed parking and leaving the lot again, my vehicle would get towed. This action is typically labelled as 'no walk offs'.  Look up and read the signs if you don't want it to cost you!

There is a different store that seems to have the right idea - they let you park wherever, even overnight, for no charge. Why? Because at some point you will likely need to purchase something so this inadvertenly increases their sales. You are welcome there. For me, I was so angry at seeing the ticket that I scrapped the idea of going in to the mall and wandering around so guess what? Yup, they lost potential sales. Shooting themselves in the foot in my opinion but hey, if they think that's the best way to operate, all the power to them.

Quick and easy cache for a smiley no matter the time of the year or the weather!
