Fort Macombe was built in 1822 for the War of 1812. It was also utilized as a base in the American Civil War. In 1867, the barracks caught fire and it was abandoned. In 2016 it was used as a filming site for Beyoncé’s album Lemonade.
The fort is still abandoned. I’m a big fan of placing my caches where the adventure is focused on the location rather than the cache itself. This was the first place I visited when I moved to New Orleans and thought it was fascinating. I hope you enjoy the area and history as much as we did.
