Ȋn anul 1733, apare ca o filială administrativă, ca un cătun al satului Răchitova, unde se menţine până în anul 1850, când a trecut în componenta satului Vălioara şi apoi în cea a satului vecin Ciula Mare. Această menţiune din anul 1733, apare în Conscriptia Csaki sub numele de Kis Csula. Sub numele de Ciula Mică sau Cilisoara apare în Conscriptia Aron încă din anul 1750.
Aproape de satul Ciula Mică, se află satul Boiţa, ambele făcând parte din comuna Răchitova. O mină de pirită şi minereuri complexe a funcţionat timp de jumătate de secol în Ţara Haţegului. Ruinele ei au rămas „povara” satului Boiţa. Ruinele clădirilor fostelor mine din munţii Poiana Ruscă împânzesc mai multe sate din judeţul Hunedoara. La două decenii de la închiderea minelor, multe dintre construcţiile lor de beton, ridicate în anii regimului comunist, nu au mai fost demolate. Cu timpul, localnicii au luat de aici materialele pe care le-au considerat utile. În jurul clădirilor abandonate, natura s-a regenerat, fără a putea ascunde urmele fostelor exploatări. În satul Boiţa, din vecinătatea Haţegului, timp de aproape jumătate de secol, până în anul 2000, a funcţionat o exploatare minieră de minereuri complexe. „Sute de oameni din întreaga comună Răchitova şi din aşezările învecinate, au muncit aici. După închiderea minei, un sfert din localnici au ajuns şomeri. Cu timpul unii s-au redresat, alţii au rămas în sărăcie.
