Geocache Description:

EST: Pärnu Päevaleht 1936 a. kirjutab: Maapõuest 3300 hõberaha.

Teine suurem iseseisvusaegne rahaleid.

Rahad on Poola, Riia linna jne. rahad.  Leidja teatas leiust kohe haridusministeeriumile. Samuti informeeris ta leiust kohaliku konstaablit -Paul Klaasi. Viimane kohale ilmudes, tegi tunnustusväärse korralduse rahad puutumata jätta kuni asjatundja ilmumiseni.    Nagu nüüd selgub, on leid suure väärtusega. See on suurem rahaleid iseseisvuse päevil - varem on nii palju raha -  7 naela – leitud Kundas ( Araabia raha ). Peale materiaalse väärtuse on leiul eriti suur teaduslik väärtus.   Mag. G. Laid võttis rahad kaasa ja toimetab need haridusministeeriumi kaudu õpetatud seltsi mündi kabinetile. Leidja saab leiu eest seaduses ettenähtud korras vastava tasu.

NB! Aare peidab ennast kohas kus asus jalgrada, Arumetsa külast- kirikusse. Vana Riia - Pärnu maantee on praegune Kooli tänav.

ENG: Newspaper 1936, article: 3300 Silver Coins from the Earth. Another significant discovery of ancient currency during the era of independence. How did such a large fortune end up in the Häädemeeste forest? As we reported a few days ago, a man from Häädemeeste, Hendrik Siiman, found a large number of old coins on his land. Hendrik Siiman, the owner of Varraku Farm in Arumetsa village, went to the forest on October 1st to gather pine roots for weaving baskets. While moving through the forest, he noticed a pine tree right next to the path. The path leads from Arumetsa village to the local cemetery. H.S. struck the roots with an axe, but since they weren't particularly suitable, he abandoned the task. He went home, and after some time, he returned to the tree, this time without the axe, and once again, the pine tree caught his attention. Upon closer inspection of the previously plowed ground, he found a couple of silver coins. Now he paid more serious attention to the pine tree's roots and, by scraping the ground, uncovered a whole bunch of old coins. They were all placed in a bag made of three birch bark slices. Upon closer examination, it was revealed that a total of 3300 various silver coins were unearthed, some from the 16th century and some from the 17th century. The coins were from Poland, Riga, and other places. The finder immediately notified the Ministry of Education about the discovery. He also informed the local constable, Paul Klaas. When the latter arrived, he made the commendable decision to leave the coins untouched until an expert arrived. As it turns out, the find has significant value. It is a larger discovery of currency from the era of independence. Previously, only 7 pounds of money (Arabian currency) were found in Kundas. Besides the material value, the discovery holds significant scientific value. Mag. G. Laid took the coins and will deliver them to the numismatic cabinet of the educated society through the Ministry of Education. The finder will receive the appropriate reward according to the law for the discovery. Everyone is interested in the question of how these old coins that have now come to light ended up under a tree root in Häädemeeste. It is difficult to provide a definite answer to that. However, it seems quite certain that the coins, which constitute a considerable fortune for their time, did not belong to a local resident. Since the Riga-Pärnu road passed nearby, it can be assumed that a merchant or a random passerby temporarily hid the coins under the tree's roots. For some reason, they were left there and have now come to light. Lastly, it should be noted that the location of the coin find is across a pathway that people have been using to go to church for 50 years. However, no coins have been found there before. A couple of weeks ago, Siiman found a few silver coins there, but he didn't pay much attention to that discovery.

NB! The treasure hides in the place where the footpath was located, from the village of Arumetsa to the church. The old Riga - Pärnu highway is the current Kooli street.
