Geocache Description:

26 August 2023, 17:30 - 19:30

Come enjoy a picnic dinner and fellowship
with other geocachers from the Arkansas River Valley area.

Some of the following is true, and some is not.
Your challenge is to figure out which is which.

"The World's Longest Running Annual Geocaching Event!"

What?

Nothing fancy! Just a chance to meet other geocachers from the Arkansas River Valley area (and elsewhere!) and discuss geocaching while enjoying a meal. And then grab your dogs and sled and join the race!

Where?

The event is in the backyard of the igloo owned by rklmbl, located at 202 S. Grandview, Clarksville, on the corner of Grandview and Mann. (See the coordinates above).  Best parking is on the grass on the east side of the yard facing the fence.

Although some chairs will be available, it is recommended that you bring your own lawn or camp chair, in case it is needed.

When?

Saturday, August 26, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM or so.

Your host:

Old River Runner

Regarding the food, this will be a pot-luck style weenie picnic.  Each attendee will be responsible for providing his or her own drink. However, bringing food or any of the items listed below is not a requirement for attending. It is all voluntary.  I will probably grill the weenies at home and bring them to the event burnt and ready to eat.  (I hope you like your weenies burnt!)

For this to be a success and have no one go hungry, we all need to pitch in and bring something. Here is a list of some things that we might or will need. Feel free to suggest other items. Also, please note in your "Will Attend" log what you are volunteering to bring. But be sure to check the list to see what others are bringing, so there isn't duplication on some things. (I will try to keep the list updated as folks post their Will Attend logs.). Again, this is all voluntary!

The Featured Event Activity

Regarding the Dog Sled Race, if you are interested in competing, please note the following:

  • You must provide your own dog sled and dogs.  (NOTE:  I have a feisty team of chihuahuas that I will loan you if you have a sled but no dogs.)

  • You must also pay (in advance and non-refundable) a $10,000 registration fee per team. This fee will be used for paying the vet bills on my chihuahuas.

  • A minimum of 5 teams must register no later than 5 days prior to the event (August 21), including payment in full of the registration fee, or the race will have to be cancelled. Sorry, but no refunds!

  • Also, each participant will also be responsible for their own insurance. The event host is not responsible for any participants (including dogs) or small children and other animals who might be injured as part of this activity.

  • The course will be set the day of the event and will be no shorter than 50 feet and no longer than 50 miles, depending on the amount of snow on the ground the day of the event.

  • The winner will be awarded an all expenses paid (not to exceed 5 USD) trip to Alaska next March to participate in the 52nd Iditarod. (Winner will be responsible for transportation and lodging expenses.)
