Geocache Description:

ENG/🇬🇧

Zrmanja river is 69km long and springs in village Zrmanja vrelo (means Spring of Zrmanja). The river itself is a karst-type one, which means it makes karst phenomena like caves, waterfalls, Canyons, etc. For some parts of river Zrmanja it is normal to disappear in the summer as the river partly flows underground. The waterfall you see is one of the tourist attractions, you can rent a canoe and go see it or go there by foot, but this version is a little bit trickier as it is hard to find the right path. All Zrmanja is part of Natura 2000, a program to protect wildlife and river itself. Zrmanja river on it's path makes 6 canyons, you are standing in one of them right now. And because of the karst-like terrain, here is some facts about this type: Karst relief is made from carbonited rocks that formed when organisms with shells died and sunk to the bottom of the ocean and sticked toghether. Later, when the terrain lifted, rivers started erosion and corrosion (especially on the karst terrain; it means that water dissolves CaCO3) and with them formed caves, canyons, and at the stick of two different rock types, waterfalls. But it is important to specify that corrosion usually makes underground phenomenas, like caves, abysses, etc. Canyons form when river makes a deep valley with strong errosion. It is usually in the shape of the letter V.

And now, for the impatient ones, here are the tasks to log the cache:

1. Right before the waterfall (on the waterfall), is the water shallow or deep?

2. After the waterfall, is water deeper or shallower than right on waterfall?

3. How high would you say the waterfall aproximately is?(3m/5m/10m)

4. Based on description, how did the Zrmanja river form canyons and how many are there along its whole length?

5.  What is corrosion and where can we see it's presence at the waterfall?

6. (Optional) we would be happy to receive any pictures from the site (of course without spoilers😁)

INVALID TASKS WILL BE DELETED!
