I had a wonderful night at the Shepparton Greyhounds last Thursday night. The food was good, there was a really great atmosphere and the racing was exciting. It was a ten race program and boy can those dishlickers run fast chasing the mechanical rabbit. My eyesight isn't great these days so I couldn't make out the numbers of the winners and I can't remember their names either. There were lots of Zipping This and Zipping That racing and lots of dogs with the last name Bale (they must all come from the same family!) Even though my memory isn't that great these days either I think I can recall the colours the dogs who won were wearing.
In Race 1 there was a dog that looked a lot like Nick Daicos that won easily.
Race 2 was a photo finish and I was really "envious" when the photo showed that this dog had won.
In Race 3 the lead changed several times but the dog that reminded me of a banana managed to break away and cross the line first.
I don't know why but Race 4's winner didn't have a colour, it won easily though.
It was a good thing the lights were on at the venue otherwise I wouldn't have been able to see the winner of Race 5.
I'm sure the winner of Race 6 was a greyhound but when it crossed the line about two lengths ahead of the next dog, it looked like a zebra.
The winner of Race 7 was so fast it appeared to me as if it was a fire truck urgently heading to a fire.
I think the winner of Race 8 might have been a Carlton supporter. Apparently it started the season well, then lost a heap of races but had found form in recent weeks.
Race 9 saw a very close contest with all of the dogs jumping out of their boxes quickly. I reckon each of the eight dishlickers had the lead at different stages but it was the dog dressed like Barbie that was leading when it mattered.
In Race 10 there was a greyhound that won wearing colours I hadn't seen all night. I think it must have been one of the reserves.
Anyway, I had a great night and I look forward to going again sometime. Maybe next time I'll take my binoculars and i'll be able to identify the dogs numbers.
