A magic square is a square array of numbers consisting of the distinct positive integers 1, 2, ..., arranged such that the sum of the numbers in any horizontal, vertical, or main diagonal line is always the same number.
In 1514, Albrecht Dürer's created the above engraving, Melancholia I, which has the magic square of 34; therefore this magic square is often refered to as Dürer's magic square. The engraving shows a disorganized jumble of scientific equipment lying unused while an intellectual sits absorbed in thought. I wonder what they are thinking; perhaps if they were a cacher, they'd be thinking of what to write in the log ;)
