Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the published coordinates

You do have to go there to collect some info to find the cache

This is a series of geocaches in The Glen area of Falkirk, which runs roughly East/West, and lies about a mile South of Falkirk town centre. It was never as heavily industrialised as the north of Falkirk but there are still some tell-tale signs of Falkirk's industrial past here, such as remains of The Callendar Brickworks near the B8028 road south to Shieldhill, and earthworks left over from Glenrigg Coal Mine. The topography of The Glen is that of a lower East/West strip that descends from Glen Village into the depression the Glen Burn runs along, before rising steeply to the Slamannan Plateau. Much of it is part of two large estates - The Callendar Estate and The Bespoke Estate.

There are several patches of woodland in The Glen, including Lionthorn Wood Park, Kilbean Woods, Fox Covert, Cleuch Plantation, and Easter Strip. Connecting them is a network of paths and roads, and regimented farm roads running NE/SW. The Glen Burn pretty much defines the middle of The Glen. The area has had some geocaches previously, although these have mostly now been archived.

The caches in this series can be done in any order and there is no suggested route round them. Parking places have been added as waypoints on the cache pages. For caches in Kilbean Woods, pay attention to the areas signposted as mountain bike trails, as these aren't suitable for walkers. Also, some of the caches have the 'livestock' attribute' but that is just to indicate cattle or sheep are nearby in adjacent fields, so dogs should be kept on a lead.

Mavisbank Wood North

Mavisbank Wood is a triangular(ish) wood that runs along the road from Glen Village to Shieldhill, and it connects a small industrial area near the Union Canal, with the farm belt sitting north of Shieldhill.

It's interesting the things you see when out in the woods caching. Every so often I come across something in particular that makes me smile because it reminds me of a simpler time, before smartphones and the internet. Now, we can instantly share status updates through various electronic means, but when I was growing up, these didn't exist. People had to find other ways to tell the world about personal news such as their latest romance, sometimes doing so with an air of mystery.

At the published coordinates you will find some information that will help you find the cache.

This cache requires you to do coordinate projection - using a distance and a compass bearing to determine the end location. You can find tools on the internet to help with this, and some apps and GPS devices also help you do it.

The cache is a short walk away at:

Distance: ABCm

Bearing: D (C+D) (B+D)
