Geocache Description:

Please use stealth when looking for this nano cache and avoid searching by torchlight at night.

Tucked behind Kirkdale, Halifax Street has been designated a conservation area since 1972. This small area comprises mid 19th century semi-detached flat fronted houses. The style is simple, with little ornamentation using London stock brick, with slate roofs and timber windows. It is the only surviving example of what many roads In the Wells Park Road area used to look like. The LCC demolished the area and rebuillt it between the 50s and 70; there were plans to tear down these houses in the late 50s but the street was saved by the public.

Some of the houses pre-date the Crystal Palace, but possibly the semis with white detail round the doors date from the 1850s. Census returns from 1861 include a fair number of gardeners living here but also include many other occupations.
