Ajaloost: Saaremaal Karja kihelkonnas siirdus 1848 kevadeks õigeusku 1465 inimest.
Karja luterliku koguduse rottmeister ja eeslugeja M. Soonlepp kirjutas oma mälestustes: „Wene pappid Lubasiwad ja kuulutasiwad rahwale a) Teuorjuse kautamist. b) Tubakat. d) Jahu. e) Seepi. g) Maid, Soola.[—] Rumal ning waene rahwas uskus seda, Antsid oma wanemate, wanemate usu käest ära, tühja, wale, petuse juttude läbi. – “Kes Weneks ei lähe, see jääb Sakste (mõisniku) päris orjaks elu ajaks,” oli hüüd. Kiriku õpetajad keelsiwad küll rahwast Wene usku wastu wõtmast ja usku wahetamast, aga kes wõttis seda kuulda. “Lutherusse kirikuõpetajad on ka mõisnikud, ja Mõisa härrade nõulised. Neil on kahju teuorjusest, Teupäevadest,” oli rahwa laul sell ajal.”
Karja kihelkonnas asutati mitu õigeusu kogudust, Pärsama kogudus iseseisvus Leisi kogudusest 1902. Kihelkonnakool asutati samuti 1902. Lihtne tellistest ühe kellatorniga kirik pühitseti 1908 Irkutski püha Innokenti auks. 1930 oli Pärsama koguduses 782 liiget, 1970 60 annetajaliiget ja neist vaid 11 käis koguduse poolt usuasjade volinikule esitatud statistika kohaselt regulaarselt teenistusel. 1998 oli koguduses 18 liiget. Kirik asub Pärsama külas Saaremaal.

From the history: In the parish of Karja in Saaremaa, 1465 people converted to the Orthodox faith by the spring of 1848.
M. Soonlepp, the rat master and pre-reader of the Karja Lutheran congregation, wrote in his memoirs: "Wene Pappis promised and announced to the people a) the elimination of slavery. b) Tobacco. d) Flour. e) Soap. g) Maid, Salt.[—] A foolish and wicked people believed this, You gave away the faith of your elders, elders, through empty, false, deceitful stories. - "Whoever doesn't go to Wene will remain a slave of Sakste (landlord) for life," was the cry. The teachers of the church forbade the people to accept the Wene faith and to change their faith, but who listened to it. "Lutherus church pastors are also landowners, and advisers to the lords of the Manor. "They are sorry for Teu slavery, Teupäävie," was the song of the people at that time.
Several Orthodox congregations were founded in Karja parish, Pärsama parish became independent from Leisi parish in 1902. The parish school was also founded in 1902. A simple brick church with one bell tower was consecrated in 1908 in honor of Saint Innocent of Irkutsk. In 1930, there were 782 members in the Pärsama parish, in 1970 there were 60 donor members, and only 11 of them regularly went to the service according to the statistics submitted by the parish to the religious affairs commissioner. In 1998, there were 18 members in the congregation. The church is located in Pärsama village in Saaremaa.
