Geocache Description:

Pettis Path: Foundation

The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates.

This letterbox will take you to the old stone foundation of a long-gone structure. If you have the historical or engineering expertise to know what this structure once was, please tell us in your log! Otherwise, have fun and be careful exploring this spot. Once you are done thoroughly checking it out, follow the below instructions to find the cache:

1) Count the number of stone walls perpendicular to the paved trail. Look closely. Count all walls, no matter how short or eroded.

2) Take this number and multiply it by 10. Then divide that number in half. This is your magic number.

3) Stand at the most northeast wall and face away from the structure. Walk the magic number of steps along the paved path.

4) Look to your left and locate the tree with a double trunk at its base. Your prize will be there. No need to go past the powerpole.

Be sure to re-hide the container as found. Please leave the stamp inside the cache, and bring your own ink pad, if stamping.

Watch out for thorns and poison ivy at the final.

FTF prize is a Magic Maker patch and sticker!

Thanks for visiting and happy caching, all!

This series is along a newly constructed hike and bike path following Pettis Avenue. The nearest parking is in the pullout at the intersection of Pettis Ave and Egypt Valley Ave, in front of the red gate and by the Kent County Parks sign. If you are biking the whole path, you can start at Chief Hazy Cloud Park or Forest Hills East High School.

This series is meant to be completed while walking the paved path, however caches ARE NOT directly alongside the trail. Some may require bushwhacking and/or difficult terrain. Please note terrain ratings and pay attention to your surroundings while hunting these caches!
