Diese Sage zum Heidemännlein führt uns in den wunderschönen Naturpark Blockheide bei Gmünd. Einst lebte in der Blockheide ein Männlein. Es war rundgesichtig, trug einen langen Mantel und einen großen Hut. In einer Tasche hatte es sein ganzes Hab und Gut. Mit einem langen Wanderstab durchstreifte es oft die Blockheide, man nannte es das Heidemännlein.
Die Kinder liebten das Heidemännlein, oft sang es mit ihnen draußen in der Blockheide. Man erzählt, dass es auch den Vöglein des Waldes Musikunterricht gab. Seine Tasche war auch mit Talern gefüllt.
Wenn es jemandem einen Silbertaler schenkte, konnte der Glückliche ein ganzes Jahr Geld davon ausgeben, es wurde nicht weniger.
Zwei Landstreicher erfuhren davon und beschlossen, das Heidemännlein zu fangen und zu berauben. Sie lauerten ihm in der Nähe des Mondteiches auf. Als sich das Männlein dem Teich näherte, warnten es die Waldvögel vor der Gefahr.
Doch es war zu spät, schon hatten es die beiden Räuber fast eingeholt. In seiner Verzweiflung sprang das Heidemännlein in das dunkle Wasser des Mondteiches.
Man erzählt, dass sich in klaren Mondnächten manchmal sein rundes Gesicht im Wasser spiegelt.

A little man once lived in the Blockheide. It was round-faced, wore a long coat and a large hat. He had all his belongings in one bag. It often roamed the Blockheide with a long walking stick, it was called the Heidemännlein.
The children loved the Heidemännlein, and he often sang with them outside in the Blockheide. It is said that the birds of the forest were also given music lessons. His pocket was also filled with thalers. If someone gave a silver thaler as a gift, the lucky person could spend a whole year's worth of it, and it wouldn't get any less.
Two tramps found out about this and decided to catch and rob the little Heidemännlein. They ambushed him near the Moon Pool. As the little man approached the pond, the forest birds warned him of the danger.
But it was too late, the two robbers had almost caught up with him. In desperation, the little Heidemännlein jumped into the dark water of the moon pond.
It is said that on clear moonlit nights his round face is sometimes reflected in the water.
