Geocache Description:

A series on South Australian Rail (known as SAR) sidings/stations infrastructure that have closed along many of the mainlines and branch lines that once opened the state’s regions.

Placed on walking/bike tracks where the disused rail corridors have been converted for public use.

Main line Merriton to Port Pirie

History

Part of the broad gauge network built in stages from Salisbury to Port Pirie with the first stage completed in 1915 and the final stage in 1937. In 1982 this line was converted to the standard gauge and diverted through to Crystal Brook leaving this track isolated and finally closed and dismantled.

This line included the following sidings/stations Merriton, Wurilba, Nurom, and Port Pirie.

Status closed and partly dismantled.
