When I first arrived on South Padre Island, the free city bus service was called "The Wave". Later, this was changed to the "Island Metro". It is a great service that is free and covers the main parts of South Padre Island. I thought the name "Wave" was a great name because you think of ocean waves and no matter where you were, if you saw the bus coming, you could wave and it would stop for you. Thankfully, you can still do this today. Just wave and the bus will stop for you if it is safe to do so. There are two bus routes, the "Green Route" and the "Red Route", If you want to stay on the island, take the green route. It goes north on Padre Blvd. and south on Gulf Blvd. from the county park to the convention center. If you don't mind maybe ending up in Port Isabel, you can take the red route. It goes north on Gulf Blvd. and south on Padre Blvd. It then takes a trip to Port Isabel and returns. The bus runs daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m {subject to change}. Wave it down and take a free ride. Please put back in exactly the same spot. Have fun.
