Prison Anthem
It's a rough road to get here,
If you’ve taken the route I took.
And it’s a rough trail ahead,
If you pause to look.
The crooked road behind
Is marred with my damage.
The litter of my past
I carried in my baggage -
Every shattered bottle,
Every rusted needle,
Every smoking gun,
Every awful evil,
The disappointments,
Both mine and their’s,
The despondency
After a thousand tears,
The pain in my soul
Amplified by all my fears,
The resign in my heart
For the coming years.
But then I stumbled here
Upon this awesome site!
I found this wonder
That shook me with its might!
There’s beauty in this splintered wood,
And there’s assurance in these heavy beams,
There’s peace within me now
When I consider what it means.
In its shadow
I was set free.
The baggage I could not bear
Was at last loosed off of me.
There the bags lie now
Slowly disintegrating.
Here I stand now
Quietly contemplating.
I know the road ahead
Shall never be easy.
But I am confident now -
Resting in the One Who sees me.
Though I may stumble,
I shall not fall.
Those chains can never again
Be binding.
And when I’m tempted again
That baggage to recall
It can be left behind
I myself am reminding.
You too can share my hope
With faith in the One of the key.
You too can begin again,
Finally, and forever, set perfectly free.
