Patrick Jakobsson
En dag gick jag i skogen med min kamera. System, digital och med macro-objektivet på. Knäppte lite här och lite där på det ena och det andra. Då gick min tanke till Patrick Jakobsson och tiden vi inte visste vad digitalkameror var. Tiden då vi satt tillsammans hemma hos honom och pratade fotografi. Vi övade på porträtt och vi fotade ägg i vit låda. (Det var såå svårt) Var focusering skulle sitta, skärpedjup och tid. Efteråt bar det hem till mörkrummet där bilderna framkallades för att dagen efter träffas igen för att diskutera resultat. Oj så stolt jag var när han tyckte att någon bild var bra! ”En duktig fotograf är nöjd med en bild av 100” sa Patrick. Det togs inte bilder hur som helst på den tiden. Film var dyrt och om man ville ha bra fotopapper för framkallningen kostade det ju också en del.
När jag laddade över kortet från min digital-kamera idag hade jag tagit 109 bilder. Ofta blev det tre tagningar på samma objekt så skärpa o ljus skulle komma på rätt på nån av bilderna. Aldrig bara en bild på ett objekt. Ingen tanke på att det blir dyrt. Visst är det härligt?!!
Patrick var både fotograf och konstnär. Han var född den 13 augusti 1946 i Helsingfors.
Patricks morfar var författaren Jarl Hemmer, han ägde gården Ängstorp som finns i backen på högra sidan ner mot Berghamn. Patrick jobbade i många år på fotostudios, och var mycket aktiv inom det åländska konstlivet – bland annat i konstföreningens styrelse. När han slutade jobba i fotobutiken blev han konstnär på heltid. Han arbetade särskilt med strandfynd. Föremål han hittade ute i naturen blev hans konstmaterial. Han gjorde också en hel del smycken. Han har visat sin konst på flera utställningar runt om i Finland och på Åland.

One day I was walking in the woods with my camera. System, digital and with the macro lens on. Snapped a little here and a little there on one and the other. Then my mind went to Patrick Jakobsson and the time when we didn't know what digital cameras were. The time when we sat together at his house and talked about photography. We practiced portraits and we photographed eggs in a white box. (It was so difficult) Where focusing should sit, depth of field and time. Afterwards, it was home to the darkroom where the images were developed for the following day to meet again to discuss the results. Oh, how proud I was when he thought a picture was good! "A good photographer is satisfied with one picture out of 100," said Patrick. No pictures were taken anyway at that time. Film was expensive and if you wanted good photo paper for the development, it also cost a lot.
When I loaded the card from my digital camera today, I had taken 109 pictures. Often there were three shots of the same object, so sharpness and light would be correct in one of the images. Never just one picture of an object. No idea that it will be expensive. Surely it's lovely?!!
Patrick was both a photographer and an artist. He was born on August 13, 1946 in Helsinki.
Patrick's grandfather was the writer Jarl Hemmer, he owned the farm Ängstorp which is on the hill on the right side down towards Berghamn. Patrick worked for many years at fotoshops, and was very active in the Åland art scene - including on the art association's board. When he quit working in photoshops, he became a full-time artist. He worked especially with beach finds. Objects he found in nature became his art material. He also made a lot of jewelry. He has shown his art at several exhibitions around Finland and of course on Åland.
