Geocache Description:


This cache was originally placed for the fifth annual Greater Omaha Grave Hop, an event that takes place in the Omaha area. The caches are located in and around cemeteries. Please be respectful and search for the caches between dawn and dusk.

Edward Gomez was a Korean War Medal of Honor Recipient. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery on Hill 749 on September 14.1951. In short his citation reads "...for gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as an ammunition bearer in Company E.....when a hostile grenade landed between himself and his weapon, shouting a warning to those around him as he grasped the activated charge in his hand. ....he unhesitatingly chose to sacrifice himself and, diving into the ditch with the deadly missle, absorbed the shattering violence of the explosion in his body."

There were 146 United States miltiary personnel who recieved the Medal of Honor in the Korean War. Postuhumously 103 recieved this award like Private First Class, Edward Gomez. 

 

The original starting location you will be at a flag pole with memorial markers commerating this fallen hero and another Medal of Honor Recipient.
