This cache was originally placed for the fifth annual Greater Omaha Grave Hop, an event that takes place in the Omaha area. The caches are located in and around cemeteries. Please be respectful and search for the caches between dawn and dusk.
Please note that this is a field-puzzle multi cache; you will need to visit posted coordinates to figure out the coordinates to the final stage.
Posted coordinates bring you to a beautiful, Art Deco monument memorializing a tragic story. I’d like to think the heroes of the story (and the folks who donated to build this monument) would have enjoyed this geocache. I hope you do, too.
Solve the field puzzle below to get the coordinates to the final, which is located at:
N41 1A.BCA W09F DD.EFG
At the very bottom of the monument (like, 6" from the ground), there is an inscription that may not be visible if there’s snow on the ground. You’ll use this inscription to find the values of A-G. Note: When counting letters, include both capital and lower-case characters.
A = Total number of letter “o”s in the inscription
B = The first digit in the inscription
C = The first digit in the inscription plus the 3rd digit in the inscription
D = The second digit in the inscription minus the 4th digit
E = Total number of letter "j"s in the inscription
F = Number of letters in the last name, plus 1
G = The second digit in the inscription
