Dieser Cache führt euch zur römischen Palastvilla in Mauchenheim. Dort könnt ihr Geschichte auf verschiedene Weise erleben. Bringt etwas Zeit mit, ladet vielleicht vor dem Besuch die App (s.u. Quelle) und schaut euch um!
Der Cache befindet sich auf dem Gelände der Anlage; aber nicht direkt an dem Modell. Es muss also nicht am Modell gesucht werden; das ist tabu. Parken könnt ihr direkt neben dem Zugang zum Wirtschaftsweg auf einem der paar Parkplätze. Bitte nicht in den Wirtschaftsweg einfahren.

Vom 1. Jahrhundert n. Chr. bis in die Mitte des 4. Jahrhunderts stand im Selztal nordwestlich von Mauchenheim eine luxuriöse Palastvilla mit einer Grundfläche von etwa 2.000 qm. Die Fundamente des Baus konnten auf Grund von Luftbildaufnahmen dokumentiert werden. Vor Ort gefundene Dachziegelfragmente ließen sich mit einem in Baden-Württemberg erhaltenen Giebel zu einem Ziegeldach bestimmter Neigung ergänzen. Um diesen besonderen Ort wieder erlebbar zu machen, konnten die Fundamente durch Betonschwellen nachgezeichnet werden. Vorbilder für die dekorative Rekonstruktion von Wänden und Decken stammen von Fundstellen, an denen sich eben solche fragmentarisch erhalten haben. Vier Räume mit prächtigen Mosaiken, Wandmalereien und vier fiktiven Bewohnern werden als Augmented-Reality-Erlebnis vor Augen geführt. Über eine App können 3-D-Rekonstruktionen des Baus und Videos des Hausherrn, der Frau seines Verwalters, der Köchin und eines Sklaven auf Endgeräte heruntergeladen werden. Wenn man sich vor Ort am Grundriss orientiert, öffnen sich 360-Grad-Panoramen des Baus und seiner Umgebung und man kann die Empfangshalle, den Speisesaal, die Küche und eine Scheune betreten. The cache is located on the grounds of the site, but not directly at the model. So there’s no need to search at the model itself — that area is off-limits. You can park directly next to the access to the service road at one of the few parking spaces. Please do not drive into the service road.

From the 1st century AD to the middle of the 4th century, a luxurious Palace Villa stood in the Selz Valley northwest of Mauchenheim, covering an area of about 2,000 sqm. The building's foundations were documented thanks to aerial photographs. Roof tile fragments found on site could be matched with a preserved gable in Baden-Württemberg to recreate a tiled roof of a specific inclination. To make this special place experienceable again, the foundations were traced with concrete sleepers. Models for the decorative reconstruction of walls and ceilings were taken from excavation sites where such fragments had been partially preserved. Four rooms with magnificent mosaics, wall paintings, and four fictional residents are brought to life as an augmented reality experience. Through an app, 3D reconstructions of the building and videos of the landlord, the steward's wife, the cook, and a slave can be downloaded to your device. If you orient yourself to the floor plan on-site, 360-degree panoramas of the building and its surroundings open up, allowing you to enter the reception hall, the dining room, the kitchen, and a barn.
