Den kyrka i barockstil som uppfördes på platsen under 1600-talet, och delvis bekostades av stadens grundare Per Brahe, brann ner natten mellan den 27 och 28 januari 1889. Branden började först i ett privathus i närheten och via vinden snart gnistor började antända kyrkan.[1] Vad som fanns i kyrkan innan den brann ner, finns beskrivet i en bok från 1870-talet och som en del återgavs i en artikel [2] [3] Den 15 september 1895 invigdes den nya kyrkan[4] som byggts på den gamla grunden, i nybarock för att respektera det historiska arvet. Fasaden är i vit puts, och taket är av koppar.
År 1988 restaurerades kyrkans interiör. Man har även i inredningen försökt bevara något av kyrkans historia, bland annat finns en ursprunglig fönstersten från 1100-talet bevarad.

The Baroque-style church that was built on the site during the 17th century, and partly paid for by the town's founder Per Brahe, burned down on the night of January 27-28, 1889. The fire first started in a private house nearby and via the wind, sparks soon started igniting the church. [1] What was in the church before it burned down is described in a book from the 1870s and was partly reproduced in an article [2] [3] On September 15, 1895, the new church[4] built on the old foundation was inaugurated , in neo-baroque to respect the historical heritage. The facade is in white plaster, and the roof is copper.
In 1988, the interior of the church was restored. They have also tried to preserve something of the church's history in the interior, among other things an original window stone from the 12th century has been preserved.
