"Onward as one!"
That's the theme for National Day Parade (NDP) 2023. The National Day Parade is an annual event in Singapore, commemorating Singapore's independence day. In 2023, Singapore turns 58. Happy birthday SG!
So in conjunction with our nation's 58th birthday, I've decided to plant a cache here - in the midst of two of Singapore's most famous landmarks - the Merlion and Marina Bay Sands. If you were here around the Marina Bay area on Saturdays in July, you may have been lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the NDP rehearsals, from the aerial displays to the gun salutes and of course, the fireworks! If you weren't here however, fret not, for this spot offers gorgeous views of Singapore's bay area, which has of course been featured so prominently during the NDP itself and also worldwide. Do check out the occasional major events that take place here, such as the Singapore Grand Prix and New Year's Countdown!
In particular, the lion head in the logo represents a nation looking forward confidently and resolutely beyond the curve, which symbolises the horizon. It also represents our nation coming together with the determination to build a shared future. Pretty optimistic, I must say!
You know what else represents a lion (or half-lion rather) in the area? The Merlion of course, which is just a few steps away from the cache. Enough has been said in the nearby First Order of Merlion virtual (do it if you haven't already!), so I'll just go straight into the cache.
About the cache
You are looking for a micro-sized cache. From the life buoy, count 9 to the right, and the cache is located there. Where, you may ask? Under there.
Do be cautious of muggles, which are very much abundant in this area. They may, and will probably be impossible to avoid, so just pick a moment when there are the least amount of muggles. As such, I have increased the difficulty rating. But then again, this is all part of the challenge, especially if the cache is in the heart of the city.
Also, do not venture down the stairs toward the jetty. The cache is on the same level as the walkway.
